How To Choose a Blender For Home

Modern kitchen tools simplify the monotonous processes of cooking your favorite dishes. Blender is such a multifunctional device. There are several varieties with different power and functionality. Find out what it is and how to choose a blender – submersible or stationary.

What is a blender and what is it for?

Blender is a multifunctional device designed for grinding, whipping and mixing products. From English, the word blender translates as ‘mix’. The powerful drive of the device grinds, mixes and whips the food in minutes. Changing the nozzles, you can use the device for cooking meat dishes, soups, mashed potatoes and much more.

Blender is an indispensable device for healthy eating. Prepare mousse and smoothies without such an assistant is almost impossible. There are two types, differing in design, power and functionality:

  • Stationary. The engine of such models is hidden in a stationary casing. Putting a bowl with different attachments on the drive, you can grind or mix products. A high bowl with a transparent body works with a large volume of products and allows you to control the cooking process.
  • Submersible. In submersible models, the engine is hidden in the handle of the device. To the motor part are attached various nozzles for grinding, whipping and mixing products. The mobile design grinds the ingredients in any bowl.

Stationary blender: advantages and disadvantages

Stationary blenders are a large workstation with a fixed bowl. They are convenient: everything – from fixing on the table and a large bowl to an ergonomic spout for comfortable bottling of cocktails – is aimed at creating comfort for the chef. Stationary models have several advantages:

  • Wide functionality. Stationary blender will suit all lovers of baking, because he perfectly copes with the preparation of the dough, mixing the ingredients to a homogeneous mass. Such models instantly whisk the protein into a thick foam. The stationary model is suitable for making smoothies and mousses. Only they will cope with a poke of ice and preparation of cocktails – the submersible model is not suitable for a home bar.
  • It is not necessary to hold in hands. The device is securely fixed to the table and does not require physical effort. You can grind a large number of ingredients without loading your hands.
Low price. Details of stationary models are less loaded, which is why they are cheaper. Stationary models of the middle class are like cheap submersible blenders.
Possibility of self-cleaning. Most models are equipped with self-cleaning function – no need to disassemble and clean the device after each use.
  • Stationary blenders differ in some drawbacks:
  • Dimensions. Stationary devices are bulky. In a small kitchen you will have to clean them up and get them if necessary. Large dimensions will create problems during transportation.
Only large portions. You will not be able to grind or mix a small number of products: most will simply smear on the walls, the knives will not be used. Therefore, you can not cook a little mashed potatoes for a small child.

A small list of products. Stationary models do not cope well with raw vegetables and meat – it is difficult to get rid of small pieces of fruit and vegetables in puree.

Important point: using a stationary blender, pre-cut the products into small pieces. So the blender will grind the ingredients faster and avoid overloading.

Submersible Blender: the pros and cons

Submersible blenders are devices of a new generation, are tuned to work with almost all products. Power, ergonomics and mobility are the main differences from stationary ones. Submersible blenders are distinguished by such advantages:

  • Compactness. Submersible models have compact dimensions: they have enough space even in a small kitchen. This blender is easy to clean, because nothing to disassemble is not necessary – it is enough to wash the working elements with water.
  • Convenient management. All the controls are located on the handle, so you can change the power by moving your finger. You directly control the process, changing the power when grinding different products.
  • Wide functionality. In a set of submersible models there are a number of attachments – a whisk, a knife-chopper, etc. A special bowl will make a submerged blender into a stationary one.
  • Any portion size. A submersible blender is able to cook a small portion, turning the products into puree in a small bowl.

At the same time, submersible devices have several disadvantages:

  • Limited functions. A submersible blender hard to chop ice and chop nuts. Therefore, for bartenders this type of device is useless. A submersible blender will not help in the preparation of the dough and the grinding of small ingredients for baking.
  • High price. The cheapest devices cost more than stationary models. It is better to buy a blender with a metal foot, which, unlike plastic, will not break. True, such devices are twice as expensive.
  • Load on hands. A submersible blender must be kept in hand, because of this, large amounts of food are crushed heavily.

Blender: buy or not

A quality blender is not cheap. Thinking about which blender to choose and whether to buy it, remember that such a device will speed up the cooking process. You will save time and energy by performing a monotonous work just by pressing a key. Cut the vegetables, turn the meat into mince, cook soup-puree – with the blender, these processes will be a matter of a few minutes. Remember: the blender opens the door to cooking new dishes from familiar products. So, you can indulge your loved ones with soup-mash, mousse or milkshake.

Do not buy cheap blenders: a small power and a reduced functionality level the advantages of the device and deprive them of the pleasure of using it. Cheap models are suitable for working with a small number of products and quickly overheat. They are suitable only for the preparation of a small amount of puree from non-solid products. If you plan to use the device every day – choose from expensive models of reliable manufacturers.

When purchasing a blender, pay attention to the power, the list of supported functions and the housing material, and in the case of immersion models, the material of the submerged part. Begin acquaintance with simple tasks, use each function of the device. Soon he will become an indispensable assistant in your kitchen.
